Md Sibghatullah Khan
Founder
Mohammed Sibghatullah Khan is an architect, researcher, and writer whose work explores the intersections of history, architecture, and urban heritage in Hyderabad and the Deccan region. His research engages with the ways cities evolve over time, the pressures of modern development, and the preservation— and often erasure —of historic urban landscapes.
He is the founder of The Deccan Archive, a public history initiative that documents, interprets, and shares the cultural and architectural legacy of the Deccan. Through walks, lectures, exhibitions, and publications, he has created accessible platforms for communities to connect with their heritage. His projects include the documentation of Hyderabad’s mosques, caravanserais, and riverine landscapes, as well as innovative heritage infrastructure initiatives such as wayfinding systems integrated with digital tools.
Sibghatullah’s current work focuses on the Musi River, tracing its historical transformations, cultural meanings, and the challenges of urban planning and environmental change. He is also developing new models for heritage-inspired storytelling and design through Mulki, a brand that reimagines material culture from the region.
He has been invited to present and collaborate with academic and cultural institutions in India and abroad, with interests spanning Islamic art and architecture, urban history, and public engagement with heritage. His writing seeks to bridge scholarly rigor with accessible narratives for wider audiences.
