The River Musi is Hyderabad's oldest witness. It shaped the geography of the Qutb Shahi kingdom, carried the ambitions of the Nizams, and survived the great flood of 1908 that reshaped an entire city. Today it runs diminished and overlooked, but its history runs deep.
A Brief History of River Musi is a narrative history of the river and the city it made. Drawing on archival records, colonial survey maps, oral histories, and original field research, this square illustrated book traces the Musi from the Deccan plateau through the old city, through its dargahs and ghats, its engineering projects and ecological decline, its role in the everyday lives of the people who have lived along its banks for four hundred years.
Produced in collaboration with the Musi Riverfront Development Corporation Limited and presented at the Telangana Rising Summit 2026, this book is both a scholarly contribution and a love letter to the city, designed to be read, gifted, and kept.
Collector's Edition note: Each Collector's Edition is signed, numbered, and accompanied by a high-quality archival map print of the River Musi's historic course, suitable for framing. Limited to 150 copies.
