About the event

Mohammed Hyder’s October Coup is a rare, firsthand account of the dramatic and unsettling events that followed the annexation of Hyderabad State into the Indian Union in 1948. Hyder, who was a senior civil servant in the Nizam’s administration, documents the days and months before and after “Operation Polo,” the military action that ended the Nizam’s rule. His memoir reveals not only the chaos of political transition but also the human cost -- especially the communal violence, administrative breakdown, and struggles of ordinary people caught in the shift from princely state to integration into modern India.
